Moderation Actions & Expectations

As a Moderator or Chat Staff, it is your primary goal to make sure the server is following our rules #rules channel. Please familiarize yourself with those rules

Your job is not to punish, mute, penalize, etc... our members. However, as a Staff member, it is sometimes necessary to enforce the rules by issueing a /warn. More info in: General commands

Language

While there is a need to occassionaly issue warnings for blatant use of derogatory words, the C3 Bot automatically warns users when foul language is used. If the C3 Bot did not warn, it is because the word is allowed.

Actions to take:

  • If you feel a word should be black-listed, add it to the "bad words for bot" channel. (I removed the python script to automatically update because staff kept typing in there and blacklisting words like "the" repeatedly. So, this is a manual process that I will update on a regular basis)

  • If a word is directed at another member. While the use of abbreviations are generally acceptable like: fk or sht, if it is directed at a member "fk u", "fk you", or "you piece of sht" then treat as Level 2

  • Words that are purposefully constructed to circumvent the auto-mod such is NYgger should result in a Level 3 infraction under the "Using coded language" policy. In addition, immediately update the bad words for bot channel.

  • If bad words do not fall under either category, simply document it but do not warn. (This is the safest and most reliable way to punish members equally.)

Level 1: Minor Infractions

Includes but is not limited to:

  • Light Spamming: sending several messages in a row out of excitement

  • Using the wrong channel for a question or comment.

  • Displaying a mild, negative attitude that isn't targeted at anyone

  • Publicly disrespecting staff or staff decisions.

When to punish? After repeated attempts to correct the member's behavior, you MUST explain that after repeated warnings an official warning will be issued. See Level 2 below: (Max of 3 Soft-warnings)

Escalation

  • Prior to taking any formal action, you should always make a concerted effort to de-escalate before issuing a formal warning.

  • Open a ticket to pull the member into a private chat and inform them that they are receiving a final warning. (Many times in the past, the member has said "I'm so sorry. He's my buddy and I know him IRL. I'll stop.")

  • Immediately jumping to Level 2 will almost always result in a target on your back from the members that may live on indefinitely.

Level 2: Moderate Infractions

Inlcudes but not limited to:

  • Continuing to commit level 1 infractions after repeated warnings.

  • Arguing with other members and using light insults (while arguing on its own is not a Level 2 infraction, insulting other members IS)

  • Making inappropriate or suggestive jokes that violate the family-friendly rule. (There is a fine line between being inappropriate and trying to get a laugh. Use your best judgement when dealing with this scenario. E.g. "That's what she said" or "Mine is bigger than yours" is suggestive, but it is not offensive enough to jump to a Level 2 infractions. "I'm going to stick it in her" or "I'm going to squeeze your melons" is an action that is, not only directed at another user, but is explicit in its meaning. These are level 2.

  • Continuing to publicly disrespect staff after being issue Level 1 warning. (DO NOT use the phrase "Staff disrespect" when issuing warnings. If I see this, it will most likely result in your immediate termination. You are not above the members, but you are merely enforcing the rules. Simply issuing a warning stating "Breaking Rule #8" is enough.

Escalation path:

All escalations for Level 1 will result in a level 2 hard warning. Hard warnings are automatically tracked by the C3 Bot. You should never /tempmute or punish based on these types of interactions alone.

Level 3: Serious Infractions

Includes but not limited to:

  • Targeted harassment or bullying of another member

  • Using coded language, symbols, or "dog whistles" to convey racism or bigotry (bigotry is a fine line. "I'm better than you at farm building" or "Your farm sucks" does not count. "Indians are so good at redstone" or "white people worry to much about Elytra prices" though specifically calls out a race is not conveying racism. "blacks are terrible at redstone" or "porch monkey's can't make money" or "crackers are dishonest" are examples of racism or bigotry.

  • Evading a mute or jail sentence with Alt accounts - You must have HARD proof of this to be punishable. If a user openly brags about his MAIN account being jailed is grounds for action. Simply having a similar name or join date is not enough.

  • Sharing NSFW material - see General commands

Escalation path:

  • All Level 3 infractions receive a /warn.

  • Most Level 3 infractions should receive an immediate /tempmute. Manually issuing a temp mute should never exceed 4 hours.

Level 4: Zero-Tolerance

These should be seldom issued and should always be issued by a Sr. level Staff or above. Moderators and below must initally treat a Level 4 as a level 3 and immediately notify Sr. Staff

Includes but not limited to:

  • Sharing child pornography - immediate ban

  • Direct violations of Discor TOS - Must have HARD Proof

  • Making violent threats against another user (Recent example of when this does not apply: "Let's set up a public execution" while this violates Level 2, it is not a true threat. "If you were here, I'd put a bullet in your head" IS a violoation. What makes this challenging is the fact that death and threats can be perceived by the member as real-life or in-game. "If you were near me, I'd blow you to pieces" tread carefully on statements like this because it could easily apply to Minecraft or Real Life.

Escalation Path

  • Temporary or Permenant Ban contingent upon the severity and evidence to back the Level 4 infraction.

  • Only Sr. Staff and above can issue these punishments.

  • Though it is not always possible, it is best that 2 or more Sr. Staff agree on the punishment.
